The Obviousness of Not Looking Beyond the Immediate to See The Real Investment
Sometimes the realities of where business and municipalities focus when there are core problems that could become an even better investment and priority are astonishing. Case in point at article link below.
The sad thing is, imagine how focusing on saving and reinvesting in redeveloping the central loop with an unprecedented and new use and solution for a large city, would not only revitalize Chicago and give it a fighting chance NOT to become what happened to Detroit in the 80s, but would provide a much stronger foundation to create and finance a dozen Lincoln Yard like developments, as well as help support solving other problems currently plaguing our beautiful city.
Maybe the idea is if we develop everything around it, it will improve…I call bullshit, and there is a history of why this type of ROI could backfire, on our city.
What if real estate developers and city government put this much marketing, advertorial promotion, planning, investment, energy and foresight into revisioning and redeveloping the central loop and LaSalle Street corridor, rusting just 5 miles southeast of Lincoln Yards…look, you can see it there in the distance, with access and infrastructure abound!
