IIDA Leadership Award of Excellence Honoree
The IIDA Leaders Breakfast is an annual international event series that celebrates design’s importance in the global market place by honoring the people who are both the legacy and future of design. Each chosen host city organizes a breakfast that features a renowned keynote speaker to provoke and encourage new ideas, and recognizes one city-selected honoree who has made significant contributions to the design industry.
Tom Marquardt, IIDA, SBID, AMA-EC, defines interdisciplinary design, beginning with his triple major degree in graphic, industrial, and interior design. He subsequently applied this philosophy to marquardt+, his well-respected strategy, interdisciplinary design, and branded environments studio practice in Chicago, which he created and led for over 3 decades. Prior to that, Tom designed corporate and commercial interior projects ranging from office test-fit plans to high-end showrooms.
Tom has additionally participated in leadership positions as a design principal at HDR Architecture and as vice president, director of interiors for HOK’s Chicago office. He is also an IIDA Annual Student Design Charette co-founder and judge, and a member of the American Marketing Association Executive Circle and Immediate Past President of the Society of British and International Design (SBID). He has won several interior design awards and has had his namesake practice’s work featured in publications including Interior Design magazine, Interiors & Sources, Contract magazine, Objekt International, and Abitare.
